Al Hosn is a company in Abu Dhabi, in the United Arab Emirates. Al Hosn is also an arm of the operators of their pipeline and the production facility. Today Al Hosn has been changed to ADNOC company which is a group just like the NNPC in Nigeria.
Topline being a servicing company also has a branch in Abu Dhabi. The job to carry out cleaning on a 16 inch by 20-kilometer pipeline was awarded to Topline based on our experience and technical expertise. This pipeline was laid across the desert which posed very peculiar challenges since its inception. This is because the pipeline had valve issues along the right of way. Topline was able to launch the pig and then track it from point A to the point where the valve had issues.
We also utilized a valve caliper tool to ascertain the percentage of closure and opening of the valve. The valve was observed to only close or open at about 70% thereby not allowing a mechanical pig to go through the pipeline. The challenge was identified and reported to the client and the valve was replaced. A pig was then run through the line from the beginning to the end, and we were able to recover the pigs in-home.
Several challenges were faced on this project which included working in the desert heat where temperatures could hit 50 degrees Celsius. To tackle this, most of the work was done in the early hours of the morning, and in the evening, to conserve energy and ensure that the personnel involved were not dehydrated.
The job was completed and Topline was awarded the second phase of this activity, having displayed a high level of technical skill and competency.
