Topline was contracted by a client to carry out intelligent pigging services, which is part of the DPR requirement which states that transport pipelines, whether oil or gas must be inspected every five years.
This is done to reassure the serviceability or fit for purpose of the lines and to ensure there was no form of corrosion which could be eating into them. On arrival at the client’s site, we found it very challenging, especially because the Pig launcher on site was smaller than expected.
The Pig loading arm has also developed an issue. This eventually required a lot of manual handling in order to load and launch the MFL tool (Magnetic flux leakage) tool. For this project, we specifically used our partners Pipeway to execute this task. After checks with other partners, Pipeway was identified as the best to go with on the project. The MFL tool was launched at Obiafu and it was recovered after 24 hours.
The data collected was downloaded from the MFL tool and the quality was checked and observed to be good enough. At the tail end, a final report was submitted to the client who eventually carried out a dig verification on the areas which were identified to have issues. All areas were verified by the client, confirming the accuracy of information provided by Topline.
