Safety And Productivity At The Workplace

16 September, 2022

Does safety have any impact on productivity? Would you be productive if you felt unsafe at work?

The feeling of being unsafe shuts down our creative minds and puts the mind in a state of distress and panic. In the same way, when accidents occur, they use up time and resources that may have been used for more productive activities thus slashing off a chunk of the productive pie for the period.

Safety and the feeling of general well-being trigger the mind to be more productive as fear and anxiety are significantly reduced. The mind is then able to play actively in the creative field and score productivity.

Our workplaces are not exempted from this phenomenon. A safe working environment drives productivity and fosters creativity in members of staff and we can say the opposite for an unsafe working environment.

Researchhas shown that staff who feel safe and secure generally are more productive than staff who do not feel safe and secure.

Tips for creating a safe working environment at work

Encourage healthy interaction among staff:

When staff members are engaged in healthy interactions, they form bonds that make them feel like family. What safer place to be than in the company of family?

Training and Seminars:

Companies that invest in training and seminars for their staff often rip the benefit immediately. This is because staff who are constantly being engaged through training and seminars develop a sense of self-worth and value. When people feel loved and valued, tension reduces and they almost immediately want to reciprocate by being productive.

Psychological Safety:

It is easy to rule out psychological matters because they aren't visible to the looking eye. However, psychological safety is a real thing. A number of things can make staff psychologically unsafe, it could be unhealthy work pressure, job insecurity, toxic bosses and a whole lot more. Creating a psychologically safe workspace definitely impacts positively and fuels productivity.

Physically conducive working environment:

Having a physically conducive environment can never be overrated. the physical workspace should be; clean, and hazard-free, with functional basic amenities, proper air conditioning, and spacing.

At Topline Limited  we are committed to safety in the workplace whether it is on a project site or in our offices. This commitment has merited us several safety awards in our industry.

Topline has ensured that its staff develop a safety culture by organizing Safety Seminars, fitness sessions, Safety awareness Campaigns, trivias etc. This encourages bonding between staff and promotes team work. Companies must ensure that a safe and conducive work environment is provided for their staff, regardless of rank in other to boost productivity and aid workplace safety.

While there are several other factors that affect productivity, safety does have a strong influence on productivity and should be given the much-needed attention it deserves.
